Where to eat before a show at MPAC starts with one question: how much time do you have before curtain? If you have about an hour, stay on the theater’s stretch of South Street or duck up Pine Street. How we put this together. We picked restaurants within a short walk of MPAC at 100 South Street. On September 24, 2026, we checked each one’s address, menu description and booking notes on its own website. We have not eaten at these restaurants for this guide, so we describe them in their own words and MPAC’s, not ours. Four of the five also appear on MPAC’s restaurant-partner list.
Where to eat before a show at MPAC if you have under an hour
Stirling Tavern, 150 South Street
MPAC describes the tavern as “minutes away” and pitches it as a relaxed place “to begin or end your theatre experience.” The online menu runs to starters, burgers and salads, the kind of meal you can finish before the house lights dim. MPAC’s listing notes that it is the sister restaurant to The Stirling Hotel in Stirling.
Dublin Pub, 4 Pine Street
The pub sits at the top of Pine Street, just off South Street, and MPAC lists it as “just steps from MPAC.” It has served downtown since 1973, and its featured menu leans on pub standards such as fish and chips and shepherd’s pie. Pine Street is also the walking route MPAC suggests from the train station, so the pub works well if you arrive by rail.
At either one, tell your server your curtain time when you sit down.
If You Have 90 Minutes or More
Cotto, 90 South Street
Cotto opened in late 2025 in the former Guerriero’s space and calls itself a modern Italian BYO restaurant. It comes from Stirling Restaurant Group, the same team behind Stirling Tavern and Dublin Pub. The menu follows a traditional progression of first bites, pasta, entrees and dessert, with pasta shaped in-house and dishes that change with the seasons. A coursed meal deserves the longer window. Bring your own bottle, but plan to finish it at dinner: MPAC says leftover restaurant food and wine cannot be stored at the theater.
Roots Steakhouse, 40 West Park Place
You will find Roots on West Park Place, one of the streets that frame the Morristown Green, which MPAC places a block and a half from the theater. The restaurant describes itself as an old-fashioned New York-style steakhouse built around USDA prime beef, and its Morristown page says reservations are encouraged. Roots also posts a dress guideline: hats, tank tops, flip-flops and team athletic wear are too casual for its dining room. Agricola Eatery, 40 West Park Place
Agricola shares the Park Place address with Roots, and its MorrLocal profile explains that the name comes from the Latin word for farmer. Its menus carry a “Farmers Market” section alongside flatbreads from what the restaurant calls its “Fiero” oven. Agricola posts the same dress guideline as Roots. One more timing tip for where to eat before a show at MPAC: if you are aiming for Cotto, Roots, or Agricola, book the earlier seating so you are not racing the curtain after a longer meal.
If You Would Rather Eat After the Curtain
Show lengths vary, and kitchens often close before the bar does, so check before you promise the group a late bite. Dublin Pub’s site lists separate closing times for the bar and the kitchen, and it advertises live music Thursday through Saturday nights. Stirling Tavern’s own pitch, a place to begin or end a night at the theater, makes it an easy second stop. Confirm that night’s kitchen hours on each restaurant’s site.

Getting There: Walking, Parking and the Train
MPAC stands at 100 South Street, across from the public library. You can reach all five restaurants on foot along South Street, Pine Street or West Park Place, so once you park, you can walk.
– Train: MPAC says the theater is a 0.4-mile walk from NJ Transit’s Morristown station via Pine Street.
– Parking: MPAC sells prepaid patron parking for show nights on MayoArts.org and warns that not every lot is available for every performance. Public lots and garages downtown are other options; leave extra time on busy nights.
– Security: Every patron goes through a brief screening, and MPAC asks guests to budget a few extra minutes.
What Time to Book
Work backward from curtain. Leave time to walk over, clear security and find your seat. MPAC seats latecomers at the discretion of the artist and staff, sometimes not until a break in the performance. If you need to pick up tickets, the box office opens two hours before each show. For a coursed dinner at Cotto or a steakhouse meal at Roots, book an early table and mention your show when you reserve. On popular nights, book dinner when you buy your tickets.
